Course Description

This course aims to provide learners with information about sepsis and how professionals can safely manage the condition.

Overview – The Safe Management of Sepsis
In the UK every year there are 150,000 cases of sepsis which result in 44,000 deaths, a figure that is higher than bowel, breast and prostate cancer combined. Covering all the cases of sepsis costs the NHS £3,000,000,000 a year.

It is therefore crucial that clinical staff, GPs and professionals in community care have a thorough understanding of what sepsis is and how to spot the signs of it, so resources aren’t wasted and lives lost misdiagnosing the condition.

We’ve worked with The UK Sepsis Trust to create a course to give professionals an understanding of how to safely manage sepsis. The course explains what sepsis is, statistics around the condition and case studies that relate to a medical professional’s job.

Upon completion of this course, learners will be able to:

  • Describe what sepsis is
  • Identify the observations, in the context of infection, that suggests sepsis
  • List the risk factors and pre-dispositions to sepsis
  • Explain the importance of timely action to prevent deterioration
  • Demonstrate the appropriate pathway to correct action
