Course Description

Anyone working with vulnerable adults needs to have an understanding of self-neglect and the complex issues that can impact a persons ability to make decisions.

This training will look at how to balance addressing the issue of self-neglect with an individual’s right to private life and health and how to make safe decisions.

Self-neglect is a problem in itself and can often be a symptom of other underlying problems. This course will enable you to identify it and react appropriately.

Self-neglect is difficult to detect due to its multi-dimensional character; it is a complex combination of physical, mental, psychological, social and environmental causes. Being able to spot the signs and symptoms of self-neglect is crucial for anyone who works with vulnerable adults.

The topics covered in this course include:

  • The possible causes of self-neglect, whether deliberate or unintentional
  • The connection between mental health and self-neglect
  • Signs of self-neglect
  • How to react upon recognising signs of self-neglect

This courses uses case studies and interactive scenarios and challenges to help test the learners knowledge and ability.
