Course Description

Upon completion of this course, learners will develop an understanding of what UTIs are, their main causes, and some of the main ways that UTIs can be treated and prevented.

A urinary tract infection occurs when one or more parts of the urinary system become infected with a pathogen. This can be caused from a lack of poor personal and hand hygiene, poor catheter care, an inadequate fluid intake, and conditions that may cause incomplete bladder emptying.

Why take this course?
Upon completion of this online course, learners will understand what a UTI is, how pathogens can enter the urinary tract and cause infection, the effect that diabetes has on a UTI, and how to test for the presence of UTIs. Learners will understand the detection process from observing signs and symptoms, to notifying a senior or a GP.

This module is designed to help professionals who are involved with patients in the care sector understand treatment for mild, moderate and severe cases of UTIs, what the main methods of prevention are, and the actions they can take if they suspect a patient may have a UTI.
